Affordable Housing is on the Ballot
This election, New Yorkers can vote on five proposals to amend the City Charter: four on housing and land use, and one on even-year elections. There will also be a separate statewide proposal about parkland that will appear on your ballot as Question #1.
Read a summary of Questions 2-6 below:
Question 2: Fast Track Affordable Housing
This proposal would create two new review processes for affordable housing: a fast track for affordable housing that the City is financing, and a separate fast track for affordable housing in neighborhoods that produce the least affordable housing. Community Board review would be maintained in both new fast track processes.
Question 3: Simplify Review for Smaller Projects
This proposal would simplify the review of proposals for modest amounts of additional housing and minor infrastructure projects. The new review process would maintain Community Board review, with a final decision by the City Planning Commission.
Question 4: Establish an Affordable Housing Appeals Board
Establish an Affordable Housing Appeals Board with the City Council Speaker, local Borough President, and Mayor, which could review City Council actions that reject or change applications to create affordable housing.
Question 5: Unify the City Map
This proposal would create one digital City Map, centralized at the Department of City Planning. Today, the City Map consists of thousands of paper maps across five borough offices.
Question 6: Even Year Elections
This proposal would move the City’s election dates, so that they are held in the same year as Federal Presidential elections, when permitted by state law.
